After raising my son as a sole parent I made a decision that after his tenth birthday I would commence full time work. Over the last ten years I had worked in various part time and casual positions, however despite being a resourceful person I struggled at times financially and emotionally.
I was fortunate to be referred to an organisation (Sign on Employment) that assisted in recognising the skills I had and what I needed to do to enter full time employment. With interviews lined up I realised I needed to update my wardrobe. That’s where Fitted for Work came into the picture. It is a fantastic organisation that fitted me with a couple of great outfits, along with boosting my confidence with encouragement and advice. I can’t thank all the girls at Fitted for Work enough. I start a full time job with a brilliant company next week. I know without their help I wouldn’t have got there so fast.

After Filomena, a 47 year old mother of 3, injured her back, she knew she’d have to find work other than the casual cleaning and catering she’d been doing while raising her children. It was 20 years since she’d worked in an office but she determined to update and improve her skills. With an interview set for an admin job and no suitable clothes, Filomena was referred to Fitted for Work. Although she did not get that job, Filomena is now employed as a full-time receptionist at Wise Employment in Broadmeadows.
Filomena featured in the story about Fitted for Work on ABC’s 7.30 Report of February 1st 2007. Later she wrote to us:
I just wanted to brag to everyone about how wonderful your service is and I hope since my appearance on the ABC show that you have had more people taking advantage of what is available for them.
I know for me there was no information about your service. I think it is so important to tell everyone as it’s very hard to actually go for an interview if you feel that what you are wearing is 10 years old and hardly fits you. You cannot perform at your best when you don't feel comfortable. Whether you are going for an office or a factory job you still have to feel and look good
When I was introduced to Fitted for Work I couldn't believe my luck - I was so happy. I walked out with an interview suit, plus shoes, plus coat, plus bag. I thought I’d won Tattslotto walking out with two big bags. WOW! I was so impressed.
I have always plugged Fitted for Work because they make you feel like a million dollars. The volunteers are so caring and only to eager to help you and they will be very straight with what looks good and what doesn't .
My whole experience with Fitted for Work will always remain as one of the best experiences to me as it showed me that there are people out there who really care and no one makes you feel second best. You are no 1 when you are being serviced by the wonderful staff at Fitted for Work. So to anyone wanting to know about Fitted for Work I can assure them of quality - quantity along with a sympathetic ear.
