The terror and joy of transition

When I was pregnant I experienced that common phenomena of noticing the many pregnant women around me. My antenna was up and I went from not particularly paying attention to a pregnant woman to being fascinated.

I am having that moment again – but this time I am noticing the transitions people are going through. At FFW we are transitioning to a new business model in the second half of the year where we will maximise the potential of all women by offering tailored professional career services. It is so exciting and I can’t wait to bring you all in on the journey.

From bakery assistant to CEO

On Dare to Wear Day I will be dressing up in the uniform I wore for my first job.

As soon as I reached the ‘official’ working age of 14 and ¾ years, I went to my local bakery, proudly holding a type-written resume and asked for a job. I was so nervous and scared.

I am sure like me, you are usually too busy at this time of year to do much reflection on the year that has past. I seem to have more commitments than ever, and the last few weeks have flown. Recently, I had a 7 hour aeroplane flight to Singapore and I was idly looking at my notebook when the page opened on my New Year's resolutions for 2012.

Since 2005, Fitted for Work has transformed the lives of over 12,000 women.  As a not-for-profit organisation and the first of our kind in Australia, our mission is to help women experiencing disadvantage get work and keep it. We do this by providing free business clothing at our personal outfitting service and through our range of interview training, mentoring and transition to work programs.
