Holly's Story

Holly gets a job!

HollyHolly came to the TTW program after spending many months looking for employment.

'I found it really difficult to get beyond the first interview because my interview skills weren’t so good. I did a series of short term courses and had a number of part-time jobs which I think gave potential employers the perception I wasn’t interested in long-term, full-time employment,' says Holly.

In fact this was far from the truth, as Holly spent all her time looking for work before enrolling in the TTW program. She was interested in TTW because she saw an opportunity to improve her customer service skills, confidence and her interview skills so she could get full-time employment.

'Being in the course with the other women showed me I wasn't alone and there are other women also finding it really hard to get work. I was fortunate to have met these women and I really enjoyed the opportunity to get to know them. While we worked hard there were lots of laughs along the way.  It was a really supportive environment. I improved my customer service and communication skills and feel much more confident.'

It was Holly's mentor, Viv, that really made the program all that much more special for Holly. Her mentor helped Holly to prepare for interviews and gave her practical advice which led to her securing employment at an international engineering company as an administration assistant.

When asked what advice she would give others thinking about doing TTW Holly simply says 'Do it. It was brilliant and you have nothing to lose and everything to gain from it, including the possibility of getting full time work, like me.'
